Hi There,

I’m new to the forum and though I would join since I’ve just purchased a Biorb Life 60 tropical tank. Will be picking it up this weekend. Any suggestions on decoration (without making it tacky).

I used to keep cichlids in a 4ft tank, however the smaller size Biorb will restrict livestock, any suggestions on which fish are best to keep (low maintenance).

Does anyone know where the cheapest replacement parts can be bought, a friend mentioned that al you need is replacement carbon granules and any similar sponge rather than buying the actual replacement unit.

hi and welcome to the forum :)

i have one of each of the biorbs, they can be decorated beatifully, with real plants ( java fern..maybe on a small peice of bog wood,) reef one also make some very nice looking artifical plants, also i use shells, moss balls

the filter wont need changing ( any part of it) for months and months, all u need to do is rinse it in old tanks water,( the sponge part)
i assume you will be fishless cycling it?( u can read about this at the top of new to the hobby section )

this will take about 4 weeks, so in he mean time you have plenty of time to research the fish you would like, compatibility, purchase your water testing kit etc..
whatabout a beautiful male betta, or same sex guppies?

whatever u decide, good luck, im sure you`ll have it looking stunning :)

Thanks for the info,

I was thinking about dwarf cichlids, and a Japanese fighter fish with a few tetras. How many fish can I put in the Biorb Life 60?

no cichlids can go in a biorb they need floor space to form teritories
if by japanese fighter you mean siamese fighter(betta) that would work well if your gunna get tetras make sure they dont move to quick or nip fins
goodluck

you could go for a pair of honey gouramies

Thanks for that Thomas

Ok just so I don’t mess things up. After buying setting up the tank, how long do I have to leave it before putting fish in (can I add dechlorination to speed up the process?).

Which fish should I start with? (I’ll give the cichlids a miss).

Any preferred bottom dwellers?
Obviously I can’t get a catfish so what would be best for tank algae cleaning?

Should the Siamese fighter go in first or last?

I was hoping to keep some small but interesting (not run of the mill) tropical fish (but still have a low maintenance tank)?

Cheers

hi bapi, there's a process to go through before you add fish, it's called 'fishless cycling' there's a link in my signature which explains the whole process. it takes a couple of weeks but it means the tank is safe to add fish too and you shouldn't have any problems with them.

anyway the few weeks will give you time to explore fish options.

mixing honey gouramis and a betta is a bad idea they are from the same family (labyrinth fish ) and a betta could mistake a gourami for another betta and kill it, harlequin rasboras would be better than tetras

I got my Birob Life 60 tank yesterday, set it up (black gravel 2 tall plants 2 medium plants) will add moss balls later. The instructions say add fish after 1-2 days!! Is that true?

I was thinking of getting a couple of Dinzo fish this weekend, is that too early?

yeah definately too soon, if you read the link in my signature called 'whats cycling' it will explain what would happen if you added fish straight away.

then have a read of the link in my sig 'fishless cycling' which explains how to correctly set up the tank before adding fish.
