Hey all,

Just got my first betta, he's lovely, i think about 1 or 2 yrs old and a really deep red colour, Have put him in my community tank but have only got 3 corys, 2 Harlequins and 2 yoy loaches in the tank.. i was told these are all acceptable as tank mates by the shop in Morden.

He is a fantastic fish, very active and loves the plants... wont eat much flake food but he has his pellets and will get blood worms once a week.

Will post a pic of them asap

sorry guys, need your help... on Tuesday my Betta was in the tank.... Wednesday morning he just dissapeared.... no sign anywhere.. i checked the floor and he didnt jump out the tank, i have a lid on it anyways.... i'm guessing the only thing that could have happened is the panda corys and yoyo loaches ate the body?? theres no remians anywhere though

Yes, my first thought is check behind the filter and heater, also how big is the tank? do you have any rocks/caves in there? bettas are prone to getting themselves stuck in the most strangest of places!

Ohhh thats sounds pretty bad!
But if they did eat the fish then there owuld atleast be some remains left?
Check EVERYWHERE.

apart from 4 plants (forgotten the names) i only have 2 easter island heads.... so nowhere for it to hide etc... i have a Rekord 800 so the filter/heater are all incased....

It's suprising how small a gap a betta can fit through! I take it you have lifted the heads and checked in them? also I would turn the filter and heater of breifly and have a look in the closed unit if you haven't done so already, also if there are any gaps around the unit he may be behind there, I doubt the other fish could have eaten him completely within 24hrs so he must be somewhere! when was the last time you saw him?

tues night i saw him and no joy since wed.. i will pull the filter apart now and ahve a good nose though

Is your water flow fast in your tank? If so they do tend to hide away from that, as they hate fast water. As in my post you can see mine hid behind my filter.

I dont get it, i jave checked everywhere... no signs at all, the 2 yoyo loackes tend to squeeze themselves behind the bottom of the filter so i doubt the betta is in there with them?... there is nowhere else for him to go...i am very very puzzled

the flow of the pump isnt that fast and when i had him he didnt seem to mind swimming against the current......

OK things to check, in behind everything, inside the filter, root through the gravel or stand may have become buried if dead. Have the head statues any hols at all? Are they hollow or whole? I ask as a friend couldnt find hers and found it was in an ornament tree trunk which had the tinest hole, she managed to smash and get the fish out who is still alive today! Have you just tried gently running hands or net through the tank, as it may be enough to disturb out of hiding or find left overs...

Really sorry you are having this much trouble, hope he is just being a clever one with hiding :( Certain the lid is complete and no holes in the lid at all no matter how small?

Do you live with anyone and checked with them if seen? Maybe they saw a dead fish and attended to it and didnt tell you (I have read it happen!).

hmmm...other than that not sure, I would have thought there would be remains if the fish had eaten him as there didnt seem enough time.

Lastly what is his absolute favourite food, can you tempt him as last resort if hiding (though if you havent seen not sure too good....)

sorry guys he isnt anywhere, i puled the filter casing apart and nothing... no sign..... seems so strange......

Do you have any pets like a cat or a dog that may have eaten him had he jumped through a hole in the lid and landed on the floor? any younger siblings or children in the household that may have removed him?
