Well i was away all last week working away from home, and when i returned on Friday the mrs noticed that my Bettas tail looked different. It just didnt quite seem as elaborant as it used to, and the ends were slightly torn and white. I decided to blame this on the Gouramis that were in the community tank with him. I knew that dwarf gouramis and bettas might not get along so well, but i decided to try it out. My fault.

So on saturday i went and bought a little 27litre tank (£14.99) and heater (£10.99) and kitted it out with some spare gravel and plants that i'd got.

For some reason i've always had a little filter running in my other tank aswell as the main filter, and put that in there, filled it up, left it over night, and put him in this morning.

I know its still early, but he looks to be having an amazing time. In the community tank he'd swim around at the back through the plants, but now he's swimming everywhere, and i can make sure he's eating properly (the danios in my other tank tend to eat everything before any of the other fish have realised theres food in there).

So finaly, onto my question, what should i do about his tail?

Its not too bad, so would it grow back?

Is this a job for melafix?

Will his tail grow back at all?

He seems to be loving it in his new tank. As soon as anyone walks in the room he'll watch them constantly.

Thinking of maybe adding a few albino corys in there just to make it seem less empty.

Heres a pic

Forgot to add. I managed to do all this for £25.

Tank was £15, Heater £10, filter was a little one i already had running in another tank to keep it cycled, gravel i have loads of spare, and i had a couple of large plants that i cut up and weighed down. The tank is also 27 litres. And so far thats a full 27 litres all to himself :p

I got 2 of them glass tanks going begging in my cellar! He does look a happy boy :good:

just been to my LFS as i needed to get them to order my stock in for next saturday for my biggest tank, and i came back with a Pitbull Plec. I'd read up on them a fair bit as i was contemplating one for my community tank in order to wipe out some of the brown algea thats left. There were a few fully grown ones that id seen in there, but the guy gave me a baby one which is about 3/4". Was a bit shocked as it looked as if he was charging me £3 for a bag of water as i couldnt see him. He's in with my Betta (samson) and the mrs has decided to call him PeeWee :p
