My university allows a max tank size of 5 gallons so this is my current divided set up. Before the screaming betta-owners show up, I will state this. This set up was an experiment with dividing a tank myself. I have a 10 gallon at home that I plan to divide in 3 for my bettas at the end of April. Although 2.5 gallons is a LOT more than most betta's get, I've seen a lot of people snap at those who post about divided 5 gallon set up stating that its too small.

He's still un-named. I think He'll remain un named for a few weeks until I get a feel for his personality.

***A note on the divider:
I had to double-up the mesh so that the VT couldn't see the CT. The VT was freaking out and flaring constantly through the single-divider as he could see the colouring and outline of the CT. Doubled up the mesh and haven't seen the VT flare at all at the CT/Divider.

**EDIT** For those wondering, the mesh circle at the front of the divider in the last picture is a make-shift feeding loop I made. The surface moves quite a bit and the food was moving too quickly for my VT to catch it. The feeding loop keeps the food in one place... Just have to train my Bettas to go there at feeding time.

I think that is plenty of room for them. Especially considering at my LFS they have them in unheated, unfilter small fish bowls. Tank looks good!

Very nice set up :good: the bettas are beautiful too they have plenty of room there, are you sure that is 5 gallons? it looks much bigger.

Definitely 5 gallons. Thanks :).

I think I'm catching betta-fever... When I bought the new CT, if I'd had the space, I would have left with 5 bettas instead of one. There were some gorgeous colours in the store I went into, and I was shocked at how healthy all of them were. They were showing the bettas in bowls and large cups instead of those tiny cups, and the guys in the store had no problem answering all of my questions before I bought one. I've already started plans to rehome my guppies and divide up a 10 gallon for bettas. :p

The new CT is adorable. Swimming around, and every time he sees me, he fans his fins (not quite flaring) and then goes back to exploring. He was fed only on bloodworms at the pet store though (My VT gets flake, Bloodworms and shrimp pellets and I've got some hikari pellets in the mail to replace the flake). The CT is snubbing my flake, and my shrimp pellets are WAY to big for him (CT is half the size of my VT).

Only problem I have in the tank is my VT is a sporadic tail biter. He chomps off his tail once every 3 months or so. Right now he's got this tiny stub of a tail that I'm hoping will heal before he chomps it off again. And my Aerator is a little too strong, even with the adjustable-control thing, so I'm thinking a smaller air pump might be necessary. Tank would be perfect if Alpha Houdini would leave his tail alone.
