Hello Everyone

I just got my first Betta Splendens male which I always wanted to have. He looks very happy and lively in his 20 litre tank. However I’m little concern about his swimming next to a tank glass most of the time. Is it because he see reflection of him self and thinks that’s another male? He does swim inside the ornaments or like to get stuck in the plants, however most of the time he swim around do sharp turns and even a loops close to a glass, is it normal? Other then that I’m happy, he loves bubbles coming from a filter, and swimming behind it where there is a narrow gap. Water temperature is 79 F

Thanks

Its perfectly normal for your Betta to swim close to the glass especially if he can see you in the room. They are very nosey little fish and like to watch what you are doing.

it is a thing that will pass. Exploring and curious they are since living in a plastic cup. Also if he is flaring at his reflection it will pass too

I’m still learning by making mistakes however this might benefit. I just realised I got a fighter fish from a pet store with a fin rot illness, I though it was his natural colour till I have read a disease section in a book. It’s not very bad, only thin black line with transparent end on his back fin. Tomorrow morning I’m going to get Interpret anti fungus fin rot treatment. I only have him for 5 days so I guess the water is clean however I’ll change it tomorrow before adding the treatment.
Is there any other ways to heal the fish?

Edit: The staff in shop didn't even inform me that he might be ill so he could just end up on their morning dead fish check routine form.

Without looking at your fish and seeing for sure if it is fin rot....I would stick to changing his water and keeping it pristine for the moment because he may be on the mend anyway. When new fin regrowth starts to appear it looks transparent at the ends. Just keep an eye on him and check his condition isn't getting worse before you start medicating.

It's The Veiltail not halfmoon, sorry for bad quality.

I would go with what Better is Betta has said. The colouration looks like he might already be repairing but if you notice any change for the worse then get the treatment. His fins actually look very neat for an LFS betta and he has a good healthy colour, very pretty.

Hey, Um i think your doing a great job! 20 litres is a great deal of water for bettas, your obviously taking good care. If he has finrot then using medications might not be the way to go...yet. I would recommend 25% water change every other day and feeding him AWESOME food. If there is no change in 7 days than you can use some medications. Best of luck! P.S My betta encountered fin rot, i treated him but when i stopped he was still healing. Kinda like a miracle!

1 teaspoon of tonic salt per 5ltrs of water will also help in his recovery

good luck

I have panic a little bit that his fin were getting shorter or mayne the stress made me think that, so he is already on medication, however due my filter have a carbon it have to be removed and my fish after I have add medication from very active become very calm he do eat and swimm just not as much as he used to, I have added half of the almond leaf to the tank as well.
