New Aquarium

How do

Ive bought a Fluval 180 litre (42 UK Gals) aquarium and could do with some stocking advice, I dont want many fish and was thinking of just having the following

1 Blue Lobster
2 Freshwater Shrimps
1 Freshwater Clam

1 Shark Catfish
1 Bala Shark
1 Rainbow Shark

2 Corey Catfish

1 Redtail Loach

Would this be wrong, do I need more or less

not the lobster as they will eat anything they catch. the clams aarently will dissapear into the substrate. and when they die they release alot of toxic chemicals

the corys would prefer to be in groups of 6 or more


he balla shark can grow to over a foot long...

and i`ve never heard of a shark cat or a red tail loach so couldn`t advise on them

that shark cat will be too big for your tank, gets just over a foot long, too big for a 42 gallon really, he won't be able to turn around very easily. and i think they like saltier water when they're grown. and apparently they like their own company.

not familiar with that loach, are you sure you can get one? some loaches are pretty hard to come by. he'll get to just under a foot and need to be in groups of 6 or more.

both these fish are too big for your tank.

I thought that the Shark Cat grows big, but according to the supplier not as big as thought ??

What Cat would you suggest that grows big but not to big ?

and as for loaches, there are several cute loaches that stay small.

so apart from the loach, cat, lobster and clam the rest is ok

Leaves me with one Rainbow Shark and two shrimps

Back to the drawing board

perhaps pick one tank-compatible fish you really have your heart set on and work around that.

shrimps can end up as lunch for a lot of fish also.

well that would be a type of catfish

id be prepared to upgrade to bigger tank in a year or so

hmm, medium sized cats.

i can tell you to avoid anything from the pangasius group, or red tailed cats. they grow 3 feet+

maybe look into species of Synodontis

yeh it seems pretty wrong that red tail cats are even sold in aquariums, ive asked in the catfish section see if i get any joy there
