Just laid today. Going to try and grow this batch out. My first time growiing angel fish fry. Wish me luck!

It's not uncommon for Angel's to need 2 or 3 tries before they don't just eat the eggs! And it's even worse if there are other fish in the tank.
My greatest success was removing the eggs to another tank and hatching them out. Now it's gets tricky. Experts say you really need to feed baby Angel's live baby brine shrimp. If you're just not into hatching shrimp, you might try frozen baby brine shrimp along with flake food that you crush/powder.
Best wishes - raising fry is a great extension of the hobby...but be thinking ahead to what you'll do when they grow out.

I read your comment at work and was prepared to brag about what wonderful parents this pair were when I got home. They raised their first brood to free swimming so well. They would even move the fry everyday to keep them safe. (At least I think that’s why they kept moving them to different leaves.) Of course once they were free swimming the other fish made short work of them. I was even looking at one of the fry with a magnifying glass when the smallest tetra in the tank gobbled him up. I knew new parents regularly fail with their first brood which is why I didn’t bother setting up a fry tank. But alas when I got home tonight ready to tell you all this the eggs were all gone. Can’t find them anywhere. Oh well, better luck next time I guess.

Sorry for your loss and for being right, but sadly, that's how it goes sometimes. Especially when there are other fish in the tank (those eggs are just food) it's more difficult - and in a twisted sense, I think the parents often consume the eggs/wigglers to protect them from other fish! The parents either need a tank of their own, or next time I might just pluck the leaf and put it in a fry tank with some meth blue and an air stone to keep water circulating around the eggs.

Lots of cichlids eat their eggs the first few times a pr breeds. It happens to discus, angels, Apistogrammas, keyholes and most cichlids that lay eggs on surfaces. As Abbeysdad mentioned, it can take 2 or 3 or even more goes before the adults realise they shouldn't eat the eggs. Then they usually eat the babies when they first start to wriggle. Then after that they usually get the idea, we don't eat the eggs or young.

I have to disagree with other fishes causing them to eat the eggs. Most cichlids are less likely to eat eggs or young if there are smaller peaceful dither fish in the tank. The dither fish are simply other fish used to distract the parents attention and encourage the parents to guard, rather than sit there staring at the eggs debating do we eat them or not. Tetras, small peaceful barbs (cherry, checkered & ruby), even Corydoras make good dither fish for angels.

Keeping the adults well fed also reduces the chance of egg eating. But 99% of cichlids eat the first few batches.

Leave them there and in a couple of weeks there will be more to try.

Note: I was referring to other (incl. live-bearers) in the community tank that would attempt to eat the eggs. Perhaps the parents were attempting to move the wigglers, but few made it to any new location!
