New....and Totally Addicted!

Hi everyone! My hubby and I are new to the hobby of keeping tropical fish. But we are loving it!!! We now have 4 tanks, a 2.5 gallon with a Betta in it, a 5 gallon with 3 danios in it, a 10 gallon with 2 adult mollies, a bunch of babies , and 3 guppies in it, and a new (to us....bought at a yard sale) 30 gallon tank that is being cycled right now in preparation for the adult mollies and possibly the guppies. Whew! They are so much fun though, very soothing, and great therapy for our 8 y.o. daughter who has autism. Anyway, just wanted to say hello and state what we have so far.

Great , I was the same, couldn't get any fish for ages, (cycling) but enjoyed learning about the care. Sounds like your in at the deep end, with 4 tanks, and babies aswell, enjoy

They are so much fun though, very soothing, and great therapy for our 8 y.o. daughter who has autism.

My sisters boyfriend has a daughter with autism and she loves my marine fish, but there not very soothing for her she sometimes slaps the glass and scares them. Im trying to get them to get some for their house for her, maybe some guppies. yeah everyone ends up getting loads of tanks too, hehe i have 8 (not counting small betta tanks) and in getting another Hehe!

Same here. We started out with the 2.5 gallon and just a betta for over a year. This spring I've gone nuts. LOL And I just found out that the big tank we got yesterday is a 40 gallon not a 30. Sheesh. LOL

Yeah, it took my daughter a while to learn to be gentle with fish and just watch them and talk to them. She used to put things in the tank for the fish to play with. But if they get a tank for her, and be consistent with teaching her about them, she will learn in no time I bet! There's something about fish that kids with autism can relate to.
