I'm getting rid of my Chinese Algae Eater and I want to get another type of algae eater that can hold its own with african cichlids. Any Suggestions?

Bristlenoses are said to be a pretty good choice in general.

But the best would probably be a Synodontis species from malawi or tanganyika... I have 3 petricola in a 75g. They're really cute and stay pretty small.

these are just Catfish, not Algae Eaters.

what kind of Africans do you have? many of the rift lake cichlids regularly eat algae as a part of their natural diet. some Mbuna aquarists actually encourage algae growth as grazing activities help distract the cichlids from fighting so much.

D'oh. That'll teach me to think before engaging typing fingers. And to think I own three...

And yes, for the most part, it's the mbuna that will be your main algae eaters. Mine spend all day picking at the rocks... when they're not making more mbuna.

I really got to get rid of my algae eater he is constastly fighting with my male Saulosi. I think i'll let my africans do the algae cleaning from now on :) .
