New African Ciclid Set Up

hey guys just a quick query. I have recently changed my water set up in my 37G tank from tropical to ciclid and want some pointers on ciclids.....

I have just bought my first fairly large ciclid and am hoping he is happy....he is consistently swimming up and down the front of the tank and also up and down the air pump...the aquarium tells me I could have around 10 in my tank which seems exessive, but they said that they calm down when there is more in the tank....

Could anyone give me some pointers with ciclids, and how to tell if they are happy?
