Jags need much more room to grow. Get upwards of 14". The 60 gal tank is maybe 48"-60". Not much swimming room. I wouldn't put a Jag in anything smaller than 100.

You could do a couple salvini cichlids. Very kewl fish.

yeah the salvinis look pretty awesome i dont think the bgk is the fish for me lol.

thanks for the replys would still appreciate some suggestions
perhaps some others have kept some similar sized tanks that they would like to share???

:D

at the moment im thinking of getting an oscar ( ive sort of wanted one for ages but have resisted) a convict and possibly a blue acara.
Would that be too many fish for a 60 gal?
POssibly replace the ba or the con with a algae eater? Any suggestions on what sort?
by the way its a realy nice bevel front type tank and i got it for 75 bucks with a heater!

As i said this is will be the biggest tank ive had and i dont really know where to start with it.

pleaco heaven why would you say its money wasted on a tank for only one or two fish. Ive done the tropical thing and am slighty over it, im still keeping my trop tank set up though, the reson i suggested one or two fish as a number is because i am interested in kepping some largish cichlids, the tank was only 75 dollars with a heater so personally i dont see it as a waste of money.

ex amp the dimensions are 91cm by 50cm by 50 cm i could post photos if that would help futher but id rather post after its setup. lol.

dont monos get too big for a school in this tank? theyd be cool but i can go for a dive and see them more often than not.

thanks heaps for the replies, keep the suggestions coming, im still about a month away from stocking the thing.

I meant if I had that tank, I'd have a large community with aggressive fish, I have had 1 in my 3 foot for 5 or 6 weeks and already I'm fascinated, the firemouths are so funny how they behave and it's good to see the firemouths chasing the shark and vice-versa and so strange how nobody chases the tiger barbs. But thats just my opinion.

still just ideas at the moments anyhows, :fun:
i see what you are getting at p-h, ive sort of reconsidered my approach, a 60 aint really big enough for what i wanna do,
if i was to go for say a community of firemouths or similar medium sized cichlid how many could i get in the tank along with some dithers and an algae eater?

Also what sort of male:female ratio would i be looking at.
