Hi everyone,

well i've just spent the weekend striping down and setting up a 50 gallon (2x2x2) cube tank.

i bought it from a friend on saturday in a bit of a state (1/2 inch of spot algae on all glass panes, never been gravel vac'd in 3 years etc... get the picture...)

some of you may have followed/contributed to a topic in chat last week where i was deciding what to do with it.... well obviously i've totally changed my mind now. looking at it, it's too small for cichlids so i've decided to keep some of the existing stock and turn it into a bristlenose breeding tank!!!

just for the record i bought the tank with stand, fluval 304 external filter, heater, twin ballast with two brand new tubes (one actnitic - sp?) plus 2 silver dollars, 2 clown loaches, one phantom tetra! poor sod, one bala shark and one male bristlenose.

total cost £50. (but i did empty it and take it away for them  ) tank alone was purpose built for the previous owner costing £450 3 years ago!!

Bargain....

i swapped the bala shark (too big for the tank) for a load of filter media and decided to keep the rest of the fish. those silver dollars sure are ugly but they have a cartain charm, i couldn't get rid of those. and the clown loaches are so funny to watch same applied.

well here's some pics

i've bought a massive lump of bogwood (currently soaking) which will provide a home for hundreds of bristlenose fry, i hope. not the best pic but here it is.

what do you think.... (decor will be moved about obviously when i get the wood in)

interesting tank jimbooo - i'll certainly be following your progress with it. good luck. :)

Looks good  nice and clean now! A bargain too.

Awesome decision!
I recomend adding some PVC pipes etc as my B-nose's love to try and spawn in those(fry never make it though :( )

Good luck and keep us updated

good plan, i could strap 4/5 together lay them on the gravel and chuck the big tree stump on top.... yeah i'm liking that idea thanks DD

Lol i spy a log going to be coverd in riccia. nice buy.

no no no no. definatly not going that route with this one. (check out the thread in planted section, supposed to be a link to here but ended up with a seperate thread on the same topic, oops)

huge potential though, maybe if one of the others goes pear shaped. cant cope with 3 planted tanks.

Looks good so far Jim!
I just had another idea for the 50 gallon. A bit late now, but I might have gone for a marine seahorse tank!

awesome idea mate but a bit beyond me i feel. marine tanks scare me and seahorses are extremly sensitive. i think i'll stick with what i know (or think i know anyway)

Jimboo, that tank is going to look great when your done with it.... jsut like all ur other tanks

that drift wood is great also, how much does it weight? lol

yeah i think it'll look great, not sure on weight. cost £40 though and i can just about lift it with one hand. :flex:

I'm a little disappointed you didn't go with Cichlids but, plecos are nice too. If you have some extra money lying around you could try and breed zebra plecs. :p
