my new 500l aquarium arrived from nd aquatics today so its fun saturday for me sorting it. i was going to run a fluval fx5 and a fluval 305 filter on this set up but there is no room to put both filters in because of the supporting cover glass and the hood holes being too small. will the fluval fx5 provide adequate filtration for a moderate stocking???? im a bit dissapointed as i like to over filter really.

hasnt your hood got 6 holes along the back like mine with a cutout each end in the cover glass? if so you could just put 1 set of pipework in at each end

yes but the keyhole type opening gives no space for filter tubing for 2 filters, so if i put it through other holes i wouldnt be able to remove hood without tediously disconnecting the filter tubes.

That is precisely why I have binned the hood on my ND Aquatics 5x2x2. I just have a luminaire on the top for light now, and have siliconed a thin pine strip around the top as an edging. The cover glass lets a lot more natural light in than the hood too, which is another bonus. It looks so much nicer and access is soooooooo much easier. Here's what it looks like now ....

Going back to the filtration, I'd say an FX5 would be suitable for a 500 litre, but only with VERY moderate stocking levels. I run an FX5 and an Eheim 2217 on my 500 litre, and I'd say that it was perfect. One set of tubes in at one end, and the other filter's tubes in at the other.
