New 4.4 Gal uk Tank

lol, i bought 1 today aswell!!

i'm setting it up with sand bogwood with java fern on and sticking banjo cats in there!!

I had one of these as my first tank, It was the horrid little filter on that tank that spurred off the start of my MultiTankSyndrome. The filter vibrated like hell!

Besides that, nice enough tank, I still use it, but with different filtration for a betta and some ottos.

lol i am setting up with sand and java fern, i have bogwood with java fern on my 28 gallon

Hmm the tanks going in the front room so hope it isn't too noisy, i like the idea of not having any of it inside the tank- like a mini external!! i was going to get a Fish r Fun tank which are about the same but the filter consisted of litle bio balls a bit of filter wool and a bag of carbon.

I preferred the chunks of sponge this one had.

hmmm thats strange at;least we're not doing the same fish, that would of been too strange!!....are you heating yours? I grabbed 1 of the tiny 25W heaters we got fresh in thrusday!!

I recently bought about that size, except I went cheap, just bought a 5.5 gallon tank, and used the air pump and light from the 1.5 gallon hex tank it replaced. Plexiglass serves as a hood. It houses a betta and my last surviving Java Fern. The air pump is no longer used; changing a gallon or so every week is all that the tank needs.

No offence dude, but you are one big big big big BIG fool if you put a plec in a 4.4G tank.

NO plec should go in a tank that small, it will polute the water and itself in no time and will outgrow the tank. Also you will be severly stunting its growth in a tank like that.

Ben

I agree on that but check out his sig, it's a bull dog plec which is packing it's cases in a few weeks!!

i thoulth that bulldog plecos dont grow that big, well thats what one of my LFS staff told me he sayd that they only grow to 10cm

this is the one my one looks like

10cm is still FAR too big for a tank this size.

even for the smallest plecs like clowns, bulldogs and even bristlenoses need a minimum of 20 Gallons realistically. With clown plecs you might be able to get away with something smaller, but still, I wouldnt say anything less than 15Gallons, and you'd need good filtration.

Ben

why not add some Otocinclus in stead there small enough?
also you could try sprinkaling some watercress seeds in the trickle filter I did and there growing great! i dont no if they help with the filtration but its till cool to look at and you can eat or feed to the ottos when you get to much
