New 29g Cichlid Tank - Need Suggestions

I am setting up a new 29g tank in my apartment and I've been thinking I'd like to do something with South American dwarf cichlids. I have had larger tanks with varying cichlids - both south american and african, but my current apartment's size precludes me from setting up a large enough tank for them.
Basically, I'm looking for some suggestions in regards to what I should stock my new 29g tank with as far as compatible dwarf cichlids.
I'm not looking to breed anything, just looking for bright colors and variety. The only thing I have decided on is a gold nugget pleco to keep things clean.

Although small these guys are very territorial so a breeding pair or trio of one species with your nugget and tetras in a well planted tank could work well....i have a soft spot for pandas ..nijense. Females in breeding colours are outstanding. Also the addition of corydoras such as sterbai could make a stunning display tank, keeping it in a fully S American theme.......
