Hi all:

I'm going to purchase a new 26 gallon bow front tank and stand combination. I was wondering if it is recommended to use some sort of cushion or mat between the tank and the stand in case the top of the stand is not perfectly flush.

Thanks for any advice

I'm guessing the tank & stand is an All-Glass product, they are one of their standard items. All-Glass tanks are made with what is called a floating base, the bottom is raised up & held by the perimeter glass. You don't need or want any sort of padding between the bottom & the stand, if it puts pressure on the bottom glass you could have a tank failure.

If the top of the stand is not flush it's defective, and should be replaced if the stand is new. I've got a 72 gallon bow combo, with no padding.

so in my tank i can see some sorta polystyrene stuff throughtthe bottom panel of my glass on my new tank (due to be set up tomoro) so i take it i do not have to put anything under my tank

The tank manfacturer instructions will tell you if you need anything or not. I know for Definate that Juwel and Aqua 1 dont require a padding between tank and stand.

If you look at the base of your tank and the sides form a raised rim around the base, then you do not need padding. If the base is flush with the sides then you will need to use some kind of foam/padding.
In my experience if you buy the stand and tank as a set it will usually come with padding if needed. Doesn't hurt to double check tho !
