New 100 Gallon

After many many months of waiting I finally set up my 100 gallon tank! I've still to finish making the hood to go with it, so its only got temporary lighting borrowed from a Rio 125 at the moment (and hence the scraggy old plants too) but as soon as the lid and lighting is sorted i will be adding some nice plants too.

Looks good so far, it will look fab when you sort the light out, what you going to do make a hood for it or maybe a pendent light.
Whats the dimentions on it?

yeah with the lid and lights it should look great. Its just going to be a square low level hood with tubes internally - i had a hanger for a pendant with it but prefer to have a closed top due to the fire eel and their apparent tendancy to try to escape!! Its a 4x2x2 tank

the bigger one looks like a male and so does the smaller one a little but its hard to tell. and they look pretty stressed out in that picture

Thanks people, yeah the big severums been pretty skittish since i moved him, he got a bit freaked out in the whole netting process. Hes getting his confidence and his stripes back now, but for the first day or two was swimming away and hiding when i went near the tank. he's confident enough to take meal worms from my hand again now though

How does the background/backing reduce the stress then? Had been looking at some foam feature/moulded backings to maybe get in a month or two when i have the money, but only from an asthetic perspective. if its worth it i might get something sooner though even if its just a cheap stick-on backing

Erm

4x2x2 =16 x 6.25 = 100 UK gals gross (120 US) and about ~85 UK gal after diplacement. I think

eh? how do you work out 4x2x2 to be 55g? its 16 cubic feet, and a cubic foot holds about 6.22 UK or 7.4 US gallons of water , making it 118 US GAllons or 99.5 UK gallons

a 55g is normally 4x1.5x1.5 or sumfin.


its weird how the xtra 0.5x0.5 makes such a big difference but it does!

it provies a back to the tank its why you dont have tansk in the middle of the room the pale colour behind stresses them and a background gives them the illusion of something solid at the back
