After constant issues with cyanobacteria everytime I add plants to my tank I figured that I should start adding the plant feed I have sitting in the cupboard going to waste. It's only a bog standard bottle of feed from a well known pet store and after reading that plant feed should be dosed everyday decided to up the ante.

What a difference! I don't have any co2 running and only half dose this feed each day to what the directions say I should dose once every 2 weeks. My plants are flying up and spreading like wildfire after just 4 days and algae and cyanobacteria seems to be keeping away.

How chuffed am I! After all this time of struggling, and I had the answer sitting in my cupboard all along!

Lol. that will be just traces. I would guess your tap water is short of magnesium (mine is. the GH is basically all calcium.)

Therefore when you added their fert you added the one piece of the jigsaw that was missing :)

If it is that then try Epsom Salts next time. cheaper :)

Epsom salts......... I have clown loach in said tank, will they be ok with that?

When you add any fert it has magnesium in it and they will be using epsom salts to provide the magnesium. Therefore you are already adding some :)

Check your water report to se if your GH is made up entirely of calcium first.
