Once I move my fish from my long 20g to my 55g I was thinking about getting guppies and platys and was wondering if like say I got 1 male platy with 3 female platys and 1 male guppy with 3 female platys how long do you think it would take before my tank became over run with fry and when a female platy or guppy has babys can they stay in the tank with the other fish or would I have to put in a breeding net? Also how do you tell the difference between a male and female platy and the difference between a male and female guppy? Also can danios go with these fish?

The tank would work out fine and in about a month or two you will have loads of fry(whioch btw are good food for angel fish ;) )

The parents would eat the fry so a breeding net (preferably another small tank) would be needed for their survival.

To tell the different sexes of each fish is quit easy.
The male guppy is the more colourful and long finned tail types you see at the shops. the also have a Gonopodium which is the male organ where the anal fin is. The females are more dull in colour and have a smaller tail with no Gonopodium.

Male and female platys look the same but the male has a Gonopodium and the females are always plumper.

So say I got these fish and let the fish release the babys in the tank I could immediatly scoop them out and feed them to my angels, is there a chance of the fry being sick and getting my angels sick or my angels choking on them?

The fry usually won't be sick unless the mother has some very severe illness that will spread to them. Depending on the size of the Angels, they should be perfectly fine.

You may not be over-run with fry though. Most likely the parents will eat most of them. Guppies are the only Livebearer where you stand a chance of them not eating their fry, really.

If your tank is decorated and planted though, the babies can stay in with the other fish. You might get one or two survivors. And anyway, I wouldn't put the fish in the breeder net, only the fry once they are born.

No, Danios cannot go with Guppies. Too nippy.

Alright thanks. How long do you think I would have to scoop the fry out and feed to the angels before the parents eat them?

Well, if you have some floating plants, that helps a lot. Another one of my livebearers, I think my platy, is having her babies, it started last night. There's like 5 fry hiding in the floating plants I have, that no one can get too. My gourami is always there and looking though, but he just cant seem to get them. So if you have some floating plants, add those. Also, if you keep the parents well fed, they may not go after them. Last night when my platy was having her babies, and fry swam right across another platys mouth, and he didnt do a thing.

Good luck with them.
