ok so over the last 3-4 months, i've started stocking my tank out with real plants, however, ever since getting my first batch, i had an algae spurt!! now is this because of my plants or is it the fertilizer i use(king british)??

it all depends really :) water levels, lighting, ferts :) everything, take a peep at the algae guide by GF near the top of the plants and planted tanks section of the forums :)

You could have even brought some algae in on the plants, but then you'd have to have the conditions for it to grow. :dunno:

but i thought traces of algae were every where, even airborn?!?!

This is true....but you could have water conditions that didn't allow the algae to get a good start.....but if you brought enough in on the plants where it could multiply at a fast enough rate it could have gotten a kick start that way. I don't know just a thought. Sorry I can't help more. :dunno:

Adding liquid fertiliser to any tank without already existing good plant growth will likely result in problem algae as you've experienced.

well i did have some of the interpet stuff and that was fantastic, no algae and the plants went beserk!! however, the lfs only had king british stuff this time so had to put up with that, i think i'll ditch it and revert to interpet stuff again
