Well as the title says, the stripe on one of my neon tetras is turning gold/silver. It seems healthy otherwise (hence why i didn't post in the emergency section) and it's mostly the second half of the stripe near the tail. Any ideas why it would do this?

Is this something you've noticed happening gradually, or something that's come on suddenly?

I ask because many fish in the neon family can lose or change colour very dramatically. I once switched my bedroom tank lights on when the room was very dark and my green neons had lost all their blue/green and the stripe was a coppery red. Even if they've just been hiding behind the bogwood when I turn the lights on they can have gold/copper patches on the stripe.

very sudden. I suppose it could be it had been sitting in a shaded patch. There doesn't seem to be any with a gold stripe any more If I hadn't asked my sister to look to I would have thought I'd imagined it. It pretty cool they can have such dramatic changes :D I take it it's nothing to worry about then?

No, that sounds perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

My neons always lose their colour when the lights are off at first I thought something was wrong but its never botherd them and the regained their colour soon enough
