Well, my mom noticed some of the neons were kind of thin. We tried feeding them (tropical flakes) and they went after it, then spit it out. They appear hungry, what's another alternative for them? I've had them four weeks.

You might want to try a different food. Maybe, for some odd reason, they don't like the flakes your giving them. Try something else.

Is your tank cycled? If you have ammonia and/or nitrite in your tank your fish would be feeling too ill to eat, so test your water anyway (ammonia, nitrite and pH) and if you are new to the concept of cycling a tank, please follow the link in my sig.

In the meantime do a 20% water change and keep an eye on the temperature.

Good luck!

As Anna said...
Neons are usually farmed these days but some may be wild caught, if its not the water quality, try some frozen brine shrimp defrosted in a glass of tank water.
You could also up the temp to 82-84F as the temp increase increases metabolism and hence their appetite. Check the date on the food also and try a different brand perhaps.

Yes, the tank is cycled, levels read well except a little hardness to the water and the alkalinity is a little low. I will up the temperature a little and see if that helps, as well as trying a different food.

Thanks!

What other kinds of food should I offer them? They are not eating the tropical flakes or Bio Blend pellets anymore.

Water readings are fine and temperature is good.

Thanks!
