I did some research on Neon Tetras and I bought six to school with my loner in my 30 gallon. So total I have 7. I found a lot of information that said you needed to have a group of 5+ in order for the Neons to live peacefully. All my Tetras seem like they were doing fine, When I woke up this morning, two were dead, SO I have five left, Still a good number to keep. Then I noticed that they were very agressive towards each other. All of them will try to attack eachother. I am guessing that is why 2 died over night. What should I do? I don't have enough tanks to seperate them so they each get their own? I need help ASAP because I am afriad more will day today and tonight! :/

Just noticed this in my tank... no idea what caused it...
Everyone used to be peaceful, now neons are divebombing neons and everyone else is getting in on it...
I was hoping they were playing with each other...
Bleeding heart, neon, orange whatchmasomethings (i know bad boy should have written it down) and high fin tetras... Used to be the larger bleeding heart would harass, but I figured it was just him letting everyone know he was the dominant, now everyone down to the littlest neon seem to be bonking everyone else.

Is there such a thing as Mad Fish Desease?

Does someone have any idea? My neons are still at it. I am afriad I will lose more later. They are going crazy?!!! I need help ASAP?!?

In your tank, do you have areas for fish to escape to and hide, such as tall plants and caves? Also having lots of decorations will help keep the fish from noticing ones trying to escape.

Another thing you can try to do is to re-arange the decoratins so they spend the day exploring rather than nipping.

Ok I could do that. And about the hiding thing, Ummm, None of them is really tring to escape, they are all going at it. I'll re-arrange and see what happens.

I've just been sat watching my fish only to see one of my neon take a chuck out of another ones tail, he seems to be pecking at the other neons, what should I do with him?

He is on the verge of killing one of the others

I'd put him in an isolation box but I don't have one, first thing im doing tomorrow before my other neons die :(

mine are starting to settle a little bit. Looks like other people are having the same problem? I don't remember Neons being this agressive? My nitrate and PH is good.

As for my info.
I have a 30 gallon tank:
2 rasboras
1 German Ram
6 Neon tetras (Just got one more from a refund)
3 Prestella Tetra
1 Chinese Alge eater
2 Guppies
and a group of guppy fry.

Neons develop a pecking order, since they are new this is probably what they are doing. Mine did this for the first few weeks and now they are content chilling. The two that died may have not acclimated well to the new conditions as Neons tend to be a little on the delicate side. If this was the case I would suggest doing the "drip acclimation" method. But, then again, maybe you just got one Neon that's an a**hole.

Maybe? But yea seems like they settled down a bit. I will feed them, Then turn off the lights, close the window blinds and I will check on them this evening. Thanks for all your help and fast replies. :p

By the way, what is a "drip acclimation"?
