how to you get neon tetras to breed, does you water have to be a different temp or is just when "there in the mood"

I dunno how to sex them, but I've heard once you have a "breeding pair", you move them into a tank together (Or just divide the tank so their forced to be with eachother), then lower the temp to around 70 degress for a few days, then put the temp at 80.
It'll simulate winter turning into spring, which is when they normally breed.

I don't know too much but i think that this site might help.

How fun...You trick them into breeding much more easier to sex tetras than bettas thats for sure... :D

Breeding neons is not easy. You need to have fish that are just over half grown, condition them carefully on live foods, have a separate spawning tank with a ph of 5-6.5 (and if the water of the spawning tank is different from your main tank have them carefully acclimatised to that), artificial spawning mops etc . Once they have spawned they need to be removed to another tank with matching water params; the spawning tank needs to be covered up+ left in the dark for the eggs to hatch. The fry need to be fed first on liquifry and then on newly hatched brine shrimp. If your fish are the wrong age or anything else does not suit them, it will not happen. All according to Bailey & Sandford, The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Aquarium Fish.

I think I may just pass on this one.
