Sorry to ask for help again. But I have six neon tetras, and they sometimes two of them will chase each other and attempt to bite each other - they go round in this really rapid circle type thing when fighting. Does anyone know what this could be down to? Thanks.

How many gallons is the tank, and water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, might wan't to add more of them to cut the aggression out, plus do the guppys get along with the gouramis as the goouramis tend to nip the guppys fins.

Try giving them a small amount of food to distract them, not too much as you don't want to overfeed, usualy works with mine.

Is there any physical damage as it could be mating behaviour.

Thanks for the replies!

My tank is 28 US gallons/22 UK gallons

And my guppys and gournamis get along fine.

I was thinking that maybe I've overcrowded my tank possibly - if not then I will definately consider 3 more neons perhaps.

I'l have the ammonia, nitrate levels for tomorrow! I'm going to do a water change (20%) and clean some of my gravel.

And there is no visible physical damage as of yet.

My neons were doing the same as yours when I had only 3. It looked quite aggresive. I'd got an new tank and couldn't add anymore till the tank had cycled fully, as soon as the tanks settled I added another 5 neons and now they get along fine together. I know neons are not supposed the be added untill the tank is a few months old but wanted to stop all the aggresion. Had them a while now and all seem happpy and healthy :)

sounds like male dominance neons are easy to sex. the red line thats straight is a male and if the red line is bent its a female. (look it up on the net as it may be the other way round.) but i would bet good money thats two males fighting for dominance. as others have said, if you can, add a few more

Thank you, I will check that in morning (right not my tank light is off).

Mine do this too and I never see ANY signs of damage. I have 18.

Thanks last poster, that is reasuring - I think they'l be ok, but I think I may get 2 more.

Also I checked the red lines on my tetras and they're all males I believe.

I don't think this is "neon tag" the last group I bought, 3 were fatality kill!, And my second group I bought 5 and only one survived.

I hope yours get better. I have 4 at the present time and I am not getting any more because the new comers will probably get killed by all my survivers (probably the killers of all my other ones since they all survived the assult. They are getting along now so this is probably my last group of Neons I will get.

But the yesterday I saw some "Gold Neon tetras" I keep telling my self no but I might end up with a shoal soon.

They look like this if anyone hasn't seen them yet. I was shock!
