Hi There,
I was wandering if many people have had experiences with neon tetras. I have 10 in my aquarium (200 litres) and water is good 0 ammonia 0 nitites, however slowly they seem to be dying off i.e. 1 per week. My other fish are all doing really well. I thought they were a fairly hardy breed.
thanks

Neons are not generally hard to keep, however, they can suffer from an illness known as neon tetra disease. Unforetunately, there is no treatment so the only option is to euthanaise any ill fish.I have copied a small item from another forum that I hope yoyu will find helpful. :good:

Mod edit - sorry Elmo, I had to remove that info. Since it was a straight cut and paste from another forum we may be accused of plagiarizing from their site. - ZoddyZod

what else is in the tank with them?

they aren't that 'hardy' unfortunately, some say it is due to the massive inbreeding at the commerical farms that produce them.

Thanks for info. I have 1x small angel fish 5x rasborras, 2 dwarf Gourami and siemese fighter and 3 black tail tetra
All the other fish seems good but i think it may be the disease common to neon tetras.
Also when you buy new fish do people quarantine in tank before putting into communal tank.
thanks again

have you seen the bodies of the neons, or do they just go missing?

Thanks Elmo. Will have to keep an eye out for others.
thanks

Yes they are on the bottom of the tank all white. Cant see any bite marks or anything. The thing is during feeding non are eating now which seems suspicious.

Neon tetras would occasionally just drop dead for me. Even when they were the only fish in the tank.
Google Neon Tetra disease. Apparently the bodies will turn white when they die. Do any of the other symptoms match?

No worries Zoddyzod, will bear that in mind for future posts, thanks.
