Hello, i have a 27 gallon tank with 1 pleco, 2 catfish, 3 salfin mollies, 2 ballon mollies, 2 platys, a reed loach and 4 neon tetras, well 3 now... so anyways, i had 4 neon tetras and overnight 1 disappeared and before i went to sleep they werent schooling as usual. Now, 1 is missing and there are 2 neons together and 1 is swimming on low ground by itself. What happened to the missing neon and why is one of the 3 remaining not schooling?
Plase help me out, thanks.

The Reed loach, do you mean a Reedfish, aka a rope fish?

If so, theyre predatory and will eat neons.
And need a 75g+ tank

I know, but the reed loach, reedfish, never ate any of the neons + my neons are a bit too big for his mouth

Reedfish are largely nocturnal. And you'd be surprised what fish can and will hunt.

Yeah but, why would it decide to attack now? After days together and being well fed + the neon dont seem scared of it.

Fish are opportunists, doesn't matter if fed well they still will go for food if they have the chance.

During the day, the Reedfish isn't going to be actively hunting, and the tetras can see it so can flee so have more confidence. But at night is when Reedfish hunt and pick off sleeping small fish.

Id look to rehome it, it is not suitable for the tankmates you have and the tank size

I see, but im still wondering why would it suddenly try to eat it even though it has been loving with them for some time and also I've seen the reedfish sleeping at night so I'm not sure
