Came back from holiday today to find one of my Neons with what looks like a chunk missing out of his back - it is just in front of his dorsal fin.
The lady who was looking after my fish said she first noticed that the area had gone white and there was a dip,she thought it may have been a bite but over the two weeks it got worst to the point now where it looks as if the flesh is being eaten away.
Ive tried to read up and ive read about saddle back -_- but im also unsure if it was a bite thats festered or maybe some form of rot - the area effected is white.
I will attach a pic its rubbish but it will give the idea of the depth of the effected area.
Im unsure what to treat for - any help or suggestions appreciated.

what other fish are in the tank? It could be an ulcer as it turned white first. Do you have ammonia and nitrite readings?
You will need to use a bacterial med to stop any secondary infection getting in.

what other fish and what size tank.Have ou got water parms?

it could bea number of things. An ulcer.Finrot and a bite are the most common ones.

I would out it in a quarentine tank with some meilfix and stress coat or mabe abit of anti-bacterial medicine

Its a 40Uk Gallon tank - well mature with peacefull gen community fish in.
Tank reading are all normal as in Ammonia 0 NitrIte 0 NitrAte 30ish
I have anti bac med (if its an ulcer would that be internal bacteria?)I also have Neo-plex which is a anti-biotic for EXternal problems - what would you use please, its so bad I want to get it right first time :/

I would treat for external problems first as it looks like an ulcer. What other fish do you have?

More neons, bleeding heart, platies, hatchets and some bengal loach oh and some oto's.

Ill treat with the neoplex then I guess, the pics I can find on the web for ulcers all show the wounds with red edges, my neons wound has no red bits its completly white - is this normal for an ulcer?

Well just like to thank you ladies for your help, however poor little neon did not make it through the night :byebye: guess the meds were too much for him in his weakend state
