I've got home tonight and noticed that my neon tetras all have damaged fins, one so much so most of its tail fin has gone. I must admit I've not been watching them much over the last week but I do watch them a little when i feed them and never noticed.

My 4 honey red gouramis that I bought 2 weeks ago are fine and the chocolate plec, the galaxy rasboros and ottos that I have had for ages are fine too. I also think they have got white spot aswell due to the stress, it seems very strange that I have only noticed today.

The do seem to nip at each other, but they have done that since i had them, which i thought was just play and hierarchy.

Can anyone help or enlighten me.

I'd watch more closely and if you have more room stick another 5 neons in there or something, safety in numbers.

Hi, how many neons do you have?
Do you know your water stats?

Lloyd

I have 8 neon tetras

water stats I don't know to be totally honest with you. I've just done a 40% water change. Can different water stats cause different diseases?

Well if your ammonia and nitrite levels are too high your fishes will be weakened and more susceptible to disease. i had problems with dwarf gouramis nipping guppies but wouldn't have thought that neons would be a target. 8 neons should be enough. i would just keep an eye on them see what is going on. and keep up the water changes until you have a better idea of whats happening.
Hope this helps
Lloyd

Got the woman to get me some fin rot and white spot medication today, will treat for fin rot and then after do a large water change then treat for the white spot.
