Hi,
I just noticed while feeding, that one of my neon's gill has been enlarged and is like HUGE!! It is having trouble, as its just staying top and away from the school ... i've never seen this before. What do I do?!!
I will get pictures as soon as possible.

K its doing better as now its not swimming just at the top. However, there is still a problem as the gill is still HUGE! and its still not swimming with the school.
The only thing I did was add aquasafe - which kills cholrine and decreases the stress.

Is the gill red and inflamed as well.
Looking at bacterial to parasite.
Is the fish having trouble breathing.
Just check there no food stuck in the gill.

Pics? :) They may help.

Sorry its so blurry, i couldnt get a clear picture really hard!

Thats bad.
Whats yours stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Looking at bad water quality, gill flukes, to bacterial.
Is the fish flicking and rubbing.
To be hoenst once they labour breath they don't make it, sorry.

Unfortunately, i haven't been here for like the last 10-15 days. Feeding has been done fine ... but no water changes or anything.
Ill check the stats now.

Yes check stats as neons are very funny with water quality.
With red and inflamed gills and laboured breathing first thing you have to rule out is water quality.

With having an ammonia reading I would do an immediate water change and see how he goes bless him.

K i'll do a water change in the next 1-2 hours.
Thx for all the help wilder. Hopefully he makes it.

Fingers crossed and good luck.

Did you cycle your tank? Because from the stats it looks like you haven't and thats the problem . And not as important but you may like to know, those are cardinal tetras not neon tetras :good: .
