I just baught 5 neon tetras today, I think there are two female and 3 male, however one of the males seems left out from the other 4 and will just sit alone in a rock or swim around in the tank on his own sometimes joining the rest but not for long, I'm pretty sure its the same one all the time but I may be mistaken, is there any reason he doesn't seem to want to hang with the other neon tetra or is it fine to leave him like this.

hi
we kept neons years ago & have had cardinals for the past 6yrs or so and we do find one or two will go off to their own patch, usually they will hang around together when a bit nervous & as they get braver they will venture off on their own, gathering again together at lights out time. neons are best kept in bigger schools but i wouldnt worry about the loner- as long as he isnt showing signs of illness and is not getting picked on by the others. (neons will have little scraps where they sort of flick back & forth at eachother but have never seen any damage done) also theyre happier if they have lots of plants & caves or hidey holes where they can go if they feel the need. maybe billy no mates is just the bravest out of the lot :)

I would go and get at least another 5 Neons
