Hi there, i have a small group of neons (was 5 1 now dead). One of them seemed to stay in the same spot for an hour or more, lost colour then got attacked by the other 4 neons! It hid for a day or so in on of the plants then died.

It dosnt seem normal to me.......

Also when i went downstairs today the neons had lost there bright colours, within 10 minutes of turning the tanks light on they had got it all back.

The water seems fine, nothing out of the ordinary, im just a little puzzled.

they do lose colour when tank light id off then when its been on for a bit there colour comes back again.
what are your water parameters and how long tank been set up for?>?

Dont hate me...... Im cycling with fish atm. Using mature filters and have a good friend who is helping me every day. I think the PH is at 6.9 atm ammonia was <.1 last night and nitrate and nitrite are basically 0.

Neon are very sensitive to water quality couldn't of picked a worse fish to cycle the tank with, they need mature tanks of usually six months.
They died to bad water quality.
There not big waste producers either.
How many fish have you got left now.
How many galllons or litres is the tank.

The tank is 126L.

I have been going off my LFS advice, the tank had 1 week with drops, then they said add 5 neons. The neons went in on Saturday, they were fine until 4 attacked this 1.

The other 4 are still fine, seem very happy and are swimming about quite happily. I was due to add another 5 neons this saturday....

I wouldn't advise adding any new fish till the tank has cycled, you will just be throwing your money down the drain,.
Read up on a cycling tank.
Are the fish laboured breathing, or gasping at the top of the tank.
If you only have neons in the tank I would add some salt and increase aeration is helps with the gills in a cycling tank.
Neons can tolerate abit of salt but not a lot.
Get a jug of tank water and stir in one tablespoon of table salt make sure its disolved, and add to the tank.

Thanks for the reply ^^

The 4 neons left in there seem fine. It was just that one, it seemed to get bullied then die. I was worried about the colour loss aswell but that sorted itself out after the light went on.

They could be pale due to the stress of the cycling tank.
Neons don't travel to well there very sensitive.
I will no longer keep them anymore as I got a bad batch that had ntd.

NTD?

I read about that on the wiki, thats really bad :(

If they do die out, which i can accept would be my fault, i might wait then move onto guppies.

Guppies no go in them anymore through inbreeding.
Plus there prone to camallanous worms.

Lol.
Some fish are hardier than others, the one's you have picked so far not good.

I just want 15 or so small fish and 5 or 6 medium to small ones, that look nice, are bright and my little lad can see them >.>

That sounds fineJ
Just research the fish you like to make sure they won't out grow the tank and will get on with the fish you already have.
Patience is the key to good fish keeping and knowledge, i'm afraid you cant rush things.
Seen it to many a time newbies adding to many fish to soon.
