The LFS has some really small gobies in freshwater labeled "neon red" which are brown with a bit of red along their backs, kind of long in shape; and some larger brown gobies with stripes labeled "striped gobies". Except for the coloring, they look similar (both long in body). I can't find any info on them. Does anyone know what they are? How big they'll get, where they're from?

Hey dude,

The brown ones might be sleeper gobies. If it is an Eleotris species it may get big and they are preditory! I have an Eleotris Vittata which is over 9" in body length (excluding its tail). It is in a 7' tank on its own having eaten its last tank mate which was a 4" herotilapia multispinosa (rainbow cichlid) whole! :hyper:
I do also have 2 smaller ones which i am not sure yet on which type of eleotris they are.
When I have a bit more time I will email you a picture of my goby on the show bench. :kewlpics:
I am not all that good at putting pictures onto web sites. :S

Actually, sleepers include gudgeons, some of which only reach 2", and that's what I was reffering to. I was recently keeping an Oxyeleotris marmorata, the marbeled sleeper, which was around 14" long and 5" thick.

Actually I didn't say they were not did I.
As for the oxyeleotris marmorata I must say I am jealous. I have been trying to get my hands on a nice one for a very long while. Is it still alive as you state you "were recently" keeping one or have you sold it? :-(
It would of made a great show fish.

Oh, sorry, once again thinking of a different post... on another site... :*)

Anyway, yes, it has been sold. I believe that aquariumstuffers.com has them for sale, so you may want to check there.

Hi black ghost guy,

Where are you based? Is the aquariumstuffers.com based in the UK or US??
Knowing my luck it will be in the US! I am lucky like that as I am in the UK. How much did you sell your oxyeleotris for?? I hope they paid you well.
Do you have any pictures of it? Would love to see some if you have any.

Thanks
Dave

Yes, it is based in the US, but they may ship overseas, try contacting them. I believe that in an ad that I saw over here from Wharf Aquatics, that they carry them sporadically. I'd sold mine for $60.
