Hi, I am thinking (maybe to much) about a larger tank to replace my current one, more lenght and?or depth. Initial plan, add a few more Julies, however after looking at cost I think I can horseshoe in a small tank, (thought about this about a 1000 times already), idea ... small tank holds either , brevis, gold occies or the current tennants Multis, this leaves more room in main tank for Julies or something else. Tank size would be 18"Lx12"Hx12"D, estimate 10 gallon, I have seen on some American sites about keeping some shellies in 12x10x10 but I'm not into that. Is the 10 gallon ok for my Multis? Do you think if I can do this I can then add maybe 2 or 3 Brevis or Gold Occies in with the Julies in the 95ltr?
Any correspondence or advice greatly appreciated....... :good:

I've heard that it's probably ok.

I got a magazine once, and there was an article about a brevis species tank, and he did it in a 10 gallon.

Hey, I have mine in an 18x12x12. They seem to do just fine in that. There's a little bickering between the girls, but if your multies get along as well as you say they do then I don't think it would be a problem. But then again, maybe they don't bicker so much because they have more space than mine. Hmmm....if you have the space for a shorter height tank, but longer length, I think that might work.

Hi really fancied going for the 10 gallon option, putting the Multis in there, going to be tight for space and I hate clutter, I still think the best bet is the larger tank, will put on hold for a few more months and sweet talk my better half, anyone want to have a word with her for me and explain how important and addictive this hobby is? Cheers again, was looking forward to setting up a new tank, well I'll just have to look forward to setting up one in the future.....

Oh Oh, I meant to ask , still swithering about tank size here ,,, in the 10 gallon Multi tank what size/make heater and filter do you use, and what about lighting?

Haha, I don't know if this hobby is 'so important', but it's definitely addictive, especially with cichlids, imo. They have SO much personality I want a bigger tank, so I can get more cichlids and see how what they are like and how they interact with each other. If only I had more room...

As for my tank, I'm using an EHEIM filter the Stingray 10 model, and an Interpet deltatherm heater, it's either the 50 or 100 watt I can't see the label with the angle it's at in the tank right now. The lighting I'm using is a 6 watt T8 by arcadia.

Hope this helps.

Cheers for the info , I'm going "window shopping" today lol, so will keep my eyes peeled, getting 2 Multis from Wildwoods on Tuesday, can't wait , I checked Trimar but the're not sending anything because of the cold weather which is a fair point, I spoke to someone on another forum who has just purchased 6 Multis, they got them from Dartford-Aquatics, I enquired there about a price , 12.95 or 3 for 36 OUCH, thats a sore one, anyways have fun, I'll try get some pics up ofthe new additions, :good:

Ah window shopping. That's where all the trouble begins for me. I think I bought my multis 2 for 22 and they were 12 or 13 pounds each. Which is why I only started out with two! Hopefully your new two will settle in alright, and fingers crossed for a male.

Just off the phone, was nearly changing the order to less Julies and more Multis, will try get some tank pics up soon, redone the rock pile, it looks quite impressive even if I say so myself, the Juli loves exploring all the nooks and crannies, I found it squeezing into all the small spaces, apparently thats what they do. Got some shells on order, managed to locate some Gold Mouth Turbos, look good, fingers crossed for a male, unless that what I already have  :good:
Tons of frantic digging going on here, even where there isnt shells :hyper:

A wee update for anyone reading through all these threads, had to persuade LFS to take the grown Juli as it was terrorising the small ones, they are so skinny and about maybe an inch and a half in length, rearranged the rocks as I couldnt remember how the corner stack was, sourced a couple of BIG pieces of ocean rock today, changed the bulb back to daylight bulb, hopefully this will enable me to take some photos soon. The 2 new Multis are very cute they hang out in the rock work with the young Juis , one is very slvery and slim, the other is much darker and almost reddish brown and has some blue in the fins, my bigger multis all have yellow in the fins. Waiting on shells, managed to source some Gold Mouth Turbos but at over a quid each,I only found out today I have sent the postal order to the wrong adress ,"DOH", need to get some pictures up soon, going to add some blue LED's add some shells then maybe relax....
Oh , if anyone out there knows where to source some Altolamprologus Compressiceps "sumbu"/"shell" I'd be grateful for the heads up , hopefully some pics of Multis added soon.... :good:
