i can't really find much information on them but i was wondering what the minimum tank size required was. they dont seem like that common of a fish and i can get a breeding colony of 8. thanks

any other info on them would be great.

:good:

Well they're not listed on CF... but ive had a quick google search and they're a type of shell dweller ?? ... if so, im not 100% sure what the min tank size is but i doubt its no bigger than a 20gal. Then again, it may have be slightly larger for 8 of them.. not sure.

yea theyre shell dwellers that live in colonies.. the males get 6ish inches long but the females are less than half that.

does anyone have expirience with them?

hey, ive just been surfing youtube and came across a 3-part video on Lake Tanganyika, and about 6min40sec into part2 it shows some shellies that look like these what you are describing with the male being much larger than the female ect.. it shows how they spawn and why he is bigger (which i found quite funny).. it also shows the rival males which are 'transvestite dwarfs' lol.. you have to watch it.. very interesting.

Part1, Part2 and Part3

Also, for anyone else interested.. part3 finishes of the story of the 'sly catfish' that was mentioned in another video posted quite abit ago, where the catfish deliberately mixed its own eggs with the cichlids eggs for the cichlids to brood, oblivious to the whole mix-up she does her job and when they hatch the catfish eat the baby cichlids while in the mothers mouth ect, and the narrator also said that the catfish had "won this evolutionary fight'.. but part3 says otherwise and shows how some cichlids have developed ways to 'counter it'.. which i didnt know.

EDIT: ive just noticed there's a Part4.

36" x 12" x 12" (90cm x 30cm x 30cm) - 80 litres is suitable for a single male with a group of 5-6 females.

thank you very much. i think that might be the parameters for my 20gL except for height. but since they're bottom dwellers it shouldnt be a problem. thanks again

so i think i'm going to get like 4 females and a male for my 20gL.

& i am also gonna get some lamprologus hecqui for my 10g if the owner hasnt sold them.
