Hi guys, to cut a long story short my neighbour asked me to check her fish tank has it is having a few troubles. (never spoke to her before) but she said she knew I kept fish because she's spotted me coming into my home with bags from the LFS! :good:

So, her tank is approx. 45L in size. She has about ten neons, a couple of corys, a golden apple snail (yuck - not a fan!) and two black mollies.
She brought the mollies over the weekend and since introducing them to the tank they haven't moved!!!!! They stay in the same place at the bottom of the tank and she hasn't seen them eat either.

PH 6.6
Amm 0
Ni 0
Na 10
Temp 25c

I asked her how she introduced the fish to the tank, she said she floated the bag for about 20 mins then added a bit of her tank water to the bag every five minutes for 15 minutes, then netted the fish and put them in the tank.

Her tank has been setup about 6 months.

This is all the info I have obtained from her.

Now, tell me if I'm wrong here but I was under the impression that Mollies liked a higher PH and required a bit of salt/brackish conditions? Is this true? However, if salt is needed what about the other fish (esp. the corys who can't tolerate salt)?
Whats best to do for her? ...obviously if the fish were only a day into being into the tank then I'd tell her not to worry but 6 days in and they ain't moving. They look quite depressed!
She got the Mollies from P@H but as far as I can tell they have no physical signs of illness (pineconing/ich/col etc.)

Advice please on how to make these black mollies happier. I'd be happy to put them in my hospital tank but with the issues I've had the last few days, my A&E ward is full.

(On a positive note, its the first neighbour to speak to me since moving in to my flat over 18 months ago!)

What was the ph of the lfs.
Always check bag water in ph and temp. This way you know how long to climatise for.
I think ph for mollies is 6.5 to 7.5.
Mollies do better in brackish water but a no go area with having the corys.

Do the mollies look pale or darker in colour.
Are they resting to oneside.
Do they act listless and lethagic.
What does it look like when they go to the toilet.
Are the fins clamped.
Any signs of laboured breathing.
Any excess mucas on gills or body of fish.
Can the mollies maintain there balance in the water.

Wilder to the rescue as per the norm!

Answered your questions above.
I put a towel over her tank last night and she said she peeked under the sheets and found them swimming around. Are these fish known for being more active at night time?

I've told her to do a ph test in future of the LFS water before introducing new fish to her tank.

Ok.
it could be anything from not climatising properly, stress, bacterial infection.
I there no improvement in a few days get back to the board.
Ask her to look out for the signs I listed in the above reply.
Signs of excess mucas.
Flicking and rubbing.
If they look thin or bloated.

So, what now? The Lyretail Mollies are really not making much progress.
My neighbour has only seen them swimming freely around the tank a couple of times. And the times she has seen them swim the tank lights have been off. One of the two mollies though hardly moves - it stays underneath the filter pipe. There's no signs of mucas/flicking/rubbing on either, they don't look bloated but their activity levels shouldnt be this low, surely??????????

What the hell is going on?? I've wondered if pregnancy is involved but neither look that way inclined.

The corys in the tank seem totally fine.

HELP!

I suppose she can't issolate them to try a bacterial med.

If in the uk anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
