Needle Fish?

I was working @ the docks today and saw a group of needle fish feeding on minnows...so i quick go the cam out of the truck and came back to take a pic, all were about 2 feet long and moving fast...this one i managed to get a good pic of...

Yep those are certainly one of the Belonidae family. Most Belonids are marine fishes with just a handfull of species found in freshwater where their ancestors became landlocked thousands (if not millions) of years ago.

The only needle fish i see around docks are 6 inches.

They were hanging around the docks ( North Eastern US ) and would herd the minnows into a tight circle and then dash into the cricle, crabbing a minnow as they go, it was an interesting sight...

You see them around here in I think Brakish and Saltwater environments. Caught a couple on a rod and reel
