Needle Fish?

Yep those are certainly one of the Belonidae family. Most Belonids are marine fishes with just a handfull of species found in freshwater where their ancestors became landlocked thousands (if not millions) of years ago.

They were hanging around the docks ( North Eastern US ) and would herd the minnows into a tight circle and then dash into the cricle, crabbing a minnow as they go, it was an interesting sight...
 
You see them around here in I think Brakish and Saltwater environments. Caught a couple on a rod and reel
