If my ammonia and nitrat levels r hig how do i get them to go down?
If I do a 30% water change will that help...I need to know fast... Thanks

In order to bring down the levels, you need to do daily water changes until the levels are 0. I would suggest a 25%-30% water change. Your tank is cycling so keep an eye on the levels and keep up with the water changes and you should be all right.

ok...one more thing...when i do a water change, I use a gravel suction thing...that gets the debris from the bottom of the tank...can i use that when i am doing my water changes, or does it need to be only the water from the top of the tank.

Usually when you vaccume the gravel, that is when you would do the water changes (when your tank is stabilized). When I was doing water changes, I would vaccume the gravel every other day. That's when I would do the 25%-30% water change. On the days I didn't use the vaccume, I would take water from the top of the tank.

IMO do water changes depending upon your levels. If the ammonia is not too high, then I would wait and see if it drops the next day. You could also read up on cycling Nitrogen CyclingCycle with these two links.

There could have been something that maybe killed off your benificial bacteria. How long was the tank running for and did you cycle the tank before?

Yes I cycled it about 6 or 7 months ago...I have 4 tanks in total...I have 2 tanks that the fish r dying in...a 40 gal guppy tank, and 55 gal molly tank. One fish will dye, while another is lying on the bottom fixin to die. No illness that i can see. I have not had a death in months, all the sudden I have lost 6 fish total from both tanks, in 3 days, and 2 in the big tank lying on bottom, and 1 in guppy tank laying. I am stumped...I am going to water change in both tanks...I haven't a clue what has happened.
