Need you advice on switching to sand.

Hey,
I'm thinking about changing to sand and I would like to hear how people who have done the same, went about it. I'm trying to think of a way that would cause the least amount of stress as possible to my fish. And any pros and cons about sand? My aim is to have beautiful plants. Just now I have a couple in gravel and they look terrible. Is sand better for plants? Maybe I'm rubbish with aquatic palnts? Help would be greatly appreciated.

For growing plants properly you need good lighting as well and the right choice of plants ofcourse Take a look on a site such as www.tropica.com which allows you to choose plants based on lighting, PH and other factors.
