Okay, SO...
The 5 gallon tank that Amos was in is now empty.
I need to select some new occupants for it.

Good suggestions?
It's a 5 gallon hex with a bio wheel filter.
Oh, and I do NOT want to get any bettas in this tank. Bad luck with them in it and all.
OH, AND... even tho I filled up the tank 7 days ago, it seems as if the tank has gone thru a mini cycle. Readings are:
nitrAtes - 10
nitrItes - 0
ammonia - 0

Amos hasn't been in it for 2 days. Does that matter? The filter's still going.

I prefer severely understocked to overstocked at ALL.
Thanks :)

ps - I'm a bit partial to male guppies, but anything will do!

I have a feeling I'm going to be going on a long hunt for the perfect fishes for that tank. Til now i've only ever selected fish based on health needs (I pick up the sickys and nurse them back to health :) )

SO... now I can pick some really pretty healthy ones.
yay!

Sounds like you're going to have fun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you'd be a bit limited what with the whole hexagonal shape thing -- it minimizes the horizontal swimming space most fish prefer. Fish like angels love hexes, they need the height. But you can't put those in a 5 gallon!

Why not take a look around www.liveaquaria.com and see if there's anything that sparks your interest?

Yep, you're exactly correct.
That's why I really wanna do my homework before I put anything in it. :)

I'll go have a look at www.liveaquaria.com and see what I can find!
Thanks :)

1 male guppy, 3 female guppies, and 4 ghost shrimp! Gotta have some females for the male to "show off" to!!! :hey: :hey: :hey:

heh heh heh
They could have dodgeball tourneys in there then!
LOL

I'm off to the fish store to oogle at the fishes to see if there's something I really like!

Oooooo, on second thought... see if they have any fish called "sparkling gouramis", "pygmy (or dwarf) catfish", or "dwarf platies". All stay quite small and are absolutely adorable!!!

If you want guppies, get feeder guppies. They are much smaller than fancy guppies (even when fully grown), do not have huge tails that slow them down while swimming and are much more natural than fancy guppies. Since dumb luck gave me a tank with 7 or 8 female guppies, without a single male, I'm going to carefully select any males I put in the tank for a small tail.

hmmm... also thinking that bacteria won't last long without any fish in there, you'd better hurry.

I would just go with some ghost shrimp!  Maybe a small fish..Ever think about a dwarf puffer? :dunno: I think they need really good water conditions though and are quite the mess machines.

Yea... dwarf puffer!! The problem with the '1 male 3 female' thing is that you will soon have hundreds of guppies!

And the problem with 3 male guppies they will probably harass each other due to no females around. I had 2 in a ten gallon together and they fought and killed each other.

This might be a really stupid question, but can I throw some food in there to deteriorate to keep the bacteria going?
Then vacuum the gravel when the fishies go in?

It's been empty now for 4 days. Too long already??
