I have a 55 gallon tank set up that's just at the end of the cycling process. It's been decorated, has an Emperor 400 filter system, the temps range between 78 - 80 consistantly. Right now in the tank there's java fern, a couple clay pots, and a hunk of driftwood.. The decor can change to properly accomidate the fish that will eventually be put in... The gravel is a natural sandy-colored gravel, and the background of the tank is black.

There's been some discussion on it between my son, The Boyfriend and I and we've come up with 3 choices.

A) A gold severum

B) gouramis (blue, gold, opaline, moonlight, pearl?) and cories

C) 2 or 3 schools of barbs (DEFINATELY tiger barbs and something else) and cories.

My first choice was the severum, however the more I've researched them, the more I feel it may be unfair to keep him in a 55 gallon tank, considering it's the absolute bare minimum you can keep a single one in. Though I havn't totally written it off yet.

Gouramis I really don't know much about. I saw a few pictures of people's tanks with gouramis and they just looked SO pretty. I'd definately want a blue one. How many and what other color varieties would go well with blue gouramis?

And the barbs... what could be more entertaining than a few schools of fish? I definately would want a school of tiger barbs. What other schooling fish could I put in with tiger barbs that wouldn't be in danger of being nipped to death?

Just a guess, but I'd think the only other schoolers would be other species of semi-aggressive barbs.

A) Try the severum, my dad had one and it befriended him, it tried to rub his arm when he moved stuff in the tank and was generally very affectionate. Gouramis may fight eachother and I have no expierience/interest in barbs
