I have a young Green spotted puffer. He has been doing very well in his 30 gallon brackish tank. Its got moneywort and duck weed lots of hidding spaces and is nice and warm. I have been feeding him blood worms, krill, shell on shrimp, snails of corse and other treats from time to time. But recently he has nearly stopped eating. His tummy is sunken in so he looks really bad and he won't eat anything. Usually when I give him a treat like a bit of shrimp I wave it around the top of the tank and he goes crazy jumping at it. But now he can't even seem to notice I'm there. Its like he can't see me or the food in front of his face. I have noticed when he does eat he seems to spit it out allot. I have wondered if I need to trim his beak. But he is so small and skinny right now. I am fairly new to keeping tropicals fish so I am learning. I have kept gold fish for years and a few molly and danno tanks but these guys certainly aren't anything like those. Please any advice I don't want Tucker to die cause I'm a novice!

Just to let you know, you probs won't get any replies in here cos you posted in the wrong section :) if you PM one of the mods they'll move it for you.

For now:

How long have you had the puffer for?

Was tank cycled PROPERLY (not 1 week jobby, it takes 1 to 2 months usually) before adding him?

Do you do frequent, large water changes? They are messy fish, alot of puffer owners do 50% weekly w/c's

Can you see his beak? If so then maybe his teeth are long... On my GSP you can't see the beak clearly.

To me - and i'm not an expert but had a similar issue with a puff going skinny and not eating well - it sounds like an internal parasite problem. I think it's either Myxazin or Sterazin that works for UK'ers... I think in US you can buy antibiotics for the fish like Metronidazole.

Wait for better info about meds though, as i'm not the best person with them.
