Is kiln dried sand suitable for aquariums? I think it may be silica sand but I quickly need peoples opinions on this! It was from a builders centre and it's used in brick laying and things. It's brand is 'Tarmac' and all it says on it is 'Kiln Dried Sand', and it has a picture of someone laying cobbles on the front. The only warning it has on it is 'Take care when lifting'.

I think it contains stuff that wouldnt be good for an aquarium, from what I've read in the past. Apparently something to do with what its used for. Best to go to argos and get some play sand!!

Thanks for your input, could I have more peoples opinions please? I'm planning on adding the sand tommorow (not if its bad though).

Personally I wouldn't use it. I saw this sand myself but went for a Silver sand from my garden centre which is silica sand but it was a bit dark so off I went to Argos to get a bag of play sand which is a much better colour but u need to give it quite a few rinses before you put it in the tank. Worth it tho as water will not go cloudy. Hope this helps.
