I ordered a 24" Life Glo tube the other day from -snip-, which was the only place I could find them.
However, yesterday two Interpet 24" Marine Reflector tubes arrived instead.

On emailing them they said that the Life Glo's would be 3 weeks until they arrived so they sent the interpet tubes so as not to delay my order...

I replied with:
Hello
Unfortunately I ordered the Life Glo tube to replace my current Sun Glo in my 95 litre freshwater planted aquarium to improve the colour temperature from my previous 4200K to the 6700K that the Life Glo gives.
I am growing a large amount of plants and unfortunately these 10000k marine tubes which you have sent will not be suitable for my freshwater aquarium and the growth of my plants.

They have internal reflectors and have colour temperature 10000k.
The Life Glo's would have had colour temperature 6700k.
The Sun Glo I currently have has colour temperature 4200k.

The reply was:
The 10000k is nearer to daylight than 6700k please try them and you will see a marked difference in plant growth, marine on them is just the grade and not just sole use.

Now. Every source I have looked into has told me that the sun's colour temperature is about 6.5k.

What do I do?
Is 10000k alright or is he speaking nonsense?

I could do with finding out as soon as possible. I wish he just let me know they didn't have the ###### tubes instead of sending me the wrong ones :(

Thanks...

Not an expert, I imagine that plants will grow under 10000K. They will still utilise the light however exactly what percentage is usable I don't know probably most of it. I'm sure someone else will help.

However 6500K is daylight and in my opinion better ( if nothing else they display the tank in the colour nature intended), I'd tell him you want the tubes you asked for, a decent trader would at this point let you keep and use the wrong bulbs he sent you ( which will do) and send out the correct bulb when he has it in stock.

To replace the tube without your permission was wrong IMO.

i have 2 10k tubes in my luminare along with 2 "special plant" tubes.
many experienced ppl will tell you the colour spectrum makes no difference to the plants its just about the personal preference of the viewer.

although if you are unhappy with the tubes sent then i wouldnt take any b/s from the guy who sold you them!

its totally out of order to send a replacement product because they have no stock of the one you wanted!!
he should cover the return postage too.

That's what I was thinking. I'm really irritated he just swapped them rather than letting me have the choice between cancelling the order and recieving the 10000k tubes.

What also really irritates me is that he is wrong about the sunlight colour temperature. It may be good for growing plants, I'm not sure, but it is NOT sunlight colour temperature which is what he said. If you are in the shade on a bright day then it won't even reach 10000k...

Thanks for the advice and quick reply.

Thanks. Since I'm not a great fan of the blueish colours and I prefer the golden white colour of the 5000-7000k colour temperature, I'm going to ask that he pays for the return of the tubes that he sent and send me the Life Glo when it comes into stock.

I'm tempted to actually ask for a refund. I ordered a tube, I got the wrong ones without him asking whether I would like them instead, then I need to send them back, which I do really not want to pay extra for, and he tells me wrong information about the suns colour temperature...
I'm not sure if I want to even wait for the Life Glo. I think I do not want to deal with them anymore :/

i personally would try get a refund then not use them again.
early on in my initial set up i got sent red eco complete instead of black by a mail order company.
they refused to pay return postage, as well as being extremely rude.
so i visited every forum i could find to warn ppl away from using them!
they have now gone under.......... ;0)

Thanks for all the help :)

I think I'm going to ask that they pay for the return delivery and refund the cost of the Life Glo.

good luck dude, hopefully they will play ball!

i had 10000 marine bulbs with my lights, made my tank look sterile. Was much better and warmer when i changed it to 6500k and an 8000k

Yeah, I like the golden white of the 6500k tubes, it's not too yellow like my 4200k one is, and it's not too blue like the 10000k's are.

I've sent them an email and am hoping for the best.
Thanks guys :D

It's all resolved. When I requested the refund and that they paid for me to post the tubes back to them, they replied saying that the order has been refunded in full and that I can keep the tubes.

This nice guesture makes me feel bad about requesting the refund in the first place, despite them sending the wrong tubes because they didn't have the one I wanted. I just feel guilty about it

So yeah, it's all resolved and I don't hold anything against them. I would use them again because everyone makes mistakes and they obviously care about their customers.

Lighting wise I'm not too concerned with the appearance but more so the benefit to the plants of my tank for now (being a noob and all).
I have Hagen's Light-Glo and not sure what flourescents (T8's) are currently in there as it's second hand from my dad.
I have just ordered a bulk lot of plants from plantsalive.co.uk and I am interested in supplying these with the best light.
I don't have a massive budget so would like to use my existing light rig. I'm looking at Hagen's Flora-Glo.
My main question is regarding the measurements of T8 flourescents. Is there a universal system? I currently have 2 x 20Watt (depending on where you measure from) 57cm - 61cm in length.

Also, I'm going to go for the DIY yeast method for CO2 injection. I have a CO2 diffuser on its way. Would a glass bottle (wine) be better than plastic (coke )for this?

Thanks for any replies to a noob post. (Hope this is posted in right place..?)

They should have been upfront and told you that they didn't have what you required in stock! I doubt their Managing Director would be happy if they ordered a silver Porsche and received a pink one!? Wouldn't feel too guilty, retailers do reserve a percentage for their shrinkage. Especially in today's climate it makes more sense to guarantee future custom than concern over a small loss. They may have even claimed it back from the logistics as damages ;)

That's a great result :good:

Don't feel bad, its the companies fault.

I did feel bad the time I ordered £60 worth of frozen snake food and the order turned up two days in a row, of course they'd put the order through twice and charged me twice.

They really had no choice but to refund me for one order and let me keep both as there was no point in either of us paying the shipping back. It was a small company and I felt a bit guilty but it was they're fault and not mine and I certainly wasn't in the financial situation to let them keep another £60.
