I am looking for a new predator fish. I have a 50 gal. tank with only 2 peacock bass in it. I recently lost my redtail catfish and I am just looking to replace with a new predator. Any ideas or thoughts will help. Looking for something with a little color, but am open to anything.

Thanks in advance

Would like something along the lines of snakehead, but know nothing about them!

You need a monster tank for monster fish!
50gal is nothing but a feeder breeder!

Yes I know. 50 for now and somewhere in the 200 gal. range next year.
I knew I needed a bigger tank with the purchase of my (now dead) redtail cat.

i will assume this is a wind up

If not I would consider sorting your new tank out cycling it etc before even thinking about new predators. Peacock bass are lovely active fish that will soon outgrow your 50g tank nevermind any new oddballs

Hopefully they won't outgrow my new to come 200 gal. anytime to soon, but I am still looking for a new room mate for them.

if you insist on keeping these kind of fish then i would try and find out what happened to the rtc first. adding new fish to a suspect tank is not a good idea

peacock bass are very active , fast fish that need lots of room and as said previously rtc can reach 4ft plus and really shouldnt be traded as fishtank fish.....

what size in feet would the 200g be?

PBass will all need more than 200g, smallest species top out at around a little over 2 ft . 300g would be ok depending on dimensions. Your PBass will out grow your 50 g in no time btw, should in the right condition grow an inch a month until they hit 12 inch and by this time theyd be far to big for a 50g. Won't get started on the rtc ...

Best advise... sell the PBass and get some fish you can house for life with the current tank, no offense but you see loads of people say they're going to upgrade etc and never do. With your 50g get a predator that can live in there for life. If you get a 200 g then get a predator that is suitable at that time and not now.

With an empty 50g you could go with butterfly fish, rope fish, smaller polypterus species , dwarf channa species.

Where might I get a dwarf channa? I live in Maine and my local pet stores do not carry them.
