I have a 30 Gal tank, i need to move it to the other side of my bed room, i realize water weighs appx. 10lbs per gallon. So the tank is appx. 300lbs. My thought was to empty half the water out (with the fish in the tank), then it will be about 150 lbs, get a buddy to grab an end, lift it and carry it to the other side of the room, then put the water back in. Any thoughts or warnings??, my fear is the tanking breaking or something, that would be just my luck.

ideally the tank should be completely empty. the tanks are designed to hold the water but when/if they are lifted up the weight distribution will change therefor put stress on parts of the tank maybe causing a fracture. i moved mine with just the substrate in but wasn't as big as yours (20 gal/90L) so if i was you i would take all the water and fish out and move it. better to be safe than sorry.
hope this helps

Thanks Lloyd, i just didnt want to net all 17 fish....UGH, and the plants and other decorations, plus i have no where to put the fish as i only have one tank

You can get big storage boxes fron DIY places that would hold the fish and your filter/s. I know B&Q do them if you're in the UK.
You really do need to completely empty the tank, sorry!

i've done what you were thinking about for a ten gallon. However i would never do it again. My fish were VERY stressed out because of all the sloshing water. I would really recommend netting all the fish and draining the water to almost the substrate. You can still leave all the plants and things in there....though ideally the tank would be empty.

What I would do is, empty the tank into buckets and place the fish in one covering the top so they can't jump out. Put the substrate into something then when the tank is completely empty move it with your friend. Put the filter in one of the bukets but leave it turned off. Arrange the tank how you want it then put the filter back in. Fill it up with the water in the buckets maybe leaving 20% to fill it up with fresh water so your doing a water change at the same time. Lastly put the fish back in and ll should be good!

Hope this helped.
