Yeah someone posted about the odd numbers....that's why I picked 5 or 7. :)

I picked up 6 green Chromis this past week-end. They are doing great. They kinda wander all over the tank, but when they get scared they tend to group together. I picked 6 because they had a special for groups of 3. It might be more than I wanted. I didn't know until I put them in the tank(Lots of the same fish). I'm going to let it go a couple of weeks and see if I like them still. My buddy said he would take a couple from me if I wanted to get rid of a few.

Like boshank23 said they are great!!!

What I like about them
- They add a lot of life in the tank.
- They eat a whole bunch of food.
- They make all the other fish come out and stay out (the shy one feel safer when more fish are out on the reef.)
What I learned
- They school only when they are scared, otherwise they break up in little groups and wander around the tank
- They do pick on the weaker ones. There is a small one and he gets picked on by the bigger ones....they seem to be ok now
- They each pick there own place to sleep and go back to the same place each night
Always Practice catch and release
- My longnose hawkfish, which is tiny, picked the small and weak one out of the group and brought it back to his rock for consumtion. It was too big for the longnose mouth. He had to let him go.

Are your chromis ok in a group of 6? I thought it was meant to be odd numbers?

I am fairly sure that fish cannot count. They are not going to care if it is 5 or 6. The more the better for shoaling/schooling species.

As a techy point on whether school was spelt right, it was indeed, but perhaps the wrong term was used:

school or shoal?

;)

hey glad you like the chromis, they aren't the most brightly coloured of fish, but they make up for that with madness!!

i also heard that they should be kept in odd numbers (not sure why) but my 5 have been absolutely fine, i heard stories that they sometimes kill of the weaker members of the group

So far the 6 are fine. Like I said they were picking on a small one when they were first introduced to the tank, but now everything seems good.

Andy thanx for the info school/shoal
