i have an iron deficiency in my tanks (leaves look weak and yellowed). should i just add more liquid fertilizer?

Depends on if you are using carbon in your filter, I only put carbon in for 2 days, once or twice a month...
What fertiliser are you using?

No, if you need Iron, you should add iron, not a mixed mess of nutrients you don't even know what you are adding.

cause if you lack of iron and you are ok with the rest nutrients the only ones who are going to get advantage are the algaes with all the extra nutrients that aren't needed by your plants.

Till you know how to fertilize I will strongly recomend you to buy the necessarily test. That include P04, NO3, Fe, GH and KH, all of them are needed if you don't have experience with plants and you want algaes to keep away from your tank. PH is also needed but only for knowing your CO2 concentration.

Plants need Micro and Macro nutrients and if you lack one of them, that will prevent your plant to develope healthy cause they won't get the other nutrients they way they should, and you will be giving the algaes the excuse they need. Algaes are waiting for an excess of nutrients, and the lack of any of them for the plant.

Pd sorry for my English

the tanks i'm having a problem with are my bettas' one gal. unfiltered bowls. the plants are growing well except for their color. right now i'm using sera's florena plant fertilizer with iron and minerals. i have noticed new growth on all the plants and very few spots of discoloration. the fact they're growing is encouraging but i want them to be as healthy as possible. any suggestions?

Pasaba por aqui-

your english is better than most on this board. welcome to the forum and thanks for your help! the local fish shops i got to do not sell just iron. they only sell the all-in-one fertilizers. is there another way i can add iron to the tank?

thanks to you both. ;)

I'm not an expert but it seems to me that lack of light is the most common reason for plants being yellow and weak.

Well thanks :*)

First you should know if you have a deficiency of iron, it might happen but if that's true you'll probably be lacking aswell of K.

About the way to add iron alone I only add it with a german product, and believe me it's worth it, I add daily 12 drops for my 600 l tank. when the lights are off, remember always to fertilize when the lights are off, cause Iron in contact with the light precipitate and change (don't know how to say it English sorry) to a sustance it isn't useful to plants.

http://www.zoobuy.de/product_info.php/cPat...roducts_id/1141,

You'll probably find a web where they'll ship the product. or else try to find it in another shop, you should try to give your aquarium the nutrients they need in a daily basis, buy the tests if you want to succeed with plants.

thanks for the info and the link. i can't read german but i have friends who can ;). it's been a few days and my plant growth is off the charts. i had to do some pruning in all of my tanks and i've found more new growth :D. thanks again for your help.
