I have been travelling and since being home am struggling for inspiration of what to do with the tanks so therefore they are still empty after 5 months !!! i have a jewel rio 400 (seems crazy having such a big tank with only a very large snail population !!) and a smaller 70 both with sand and bogwood..

any ideas on fish that may rekindle interest ????

Thanks

Clown Loaches for the snails ;-), or I would have to have an Oscar in a tank that size, but thats just me.!

If I had another large aquarium available, I would keep Frontosa.. ;)

The smaller aquarium would be kept for rearing fry..

Because of my love, I can't suggest anything other than a huge lush real planted aquarium with 6-8 Discus and loads of the usual tankmates - the size, grace and dominance of Discus never fails to wow my visitors.

That said, a tank of that size, I've always tried to persuade my missus to let me get a 2nd tank and use it as a cichlid tank with a huge rocky stone landscape....... lovely colours and interaction.... and as you say use the smaller tank for rearing......

Thats my 2nd ultimate fish keeping plan - a big cichlid tank.... but only if I pay for an extention that has an additional bedroom and a box-room (aka fish room  )

yeah i have to admit i have been leaning towards cichlids.. is it big enough for frontosa and how many ?? i get confused with the different types but have made it this weekends mission to read up on them all and try to decide what i want !!

also would an oscar not outgrow the tank as i dont really want to be going any bigger !

I love discus but wouldnt they need additional filteration ??

thanks for the suggestions !

bettauk - just looked at your vid and they are gorgeous, do they breed in that tank too ??

Thanks, Yes they do breed as I have seen fry in the tank.. but I have never stripped a female yet or had the spare tanks to rear any of the fry (Not that I would be able to catch them anyway LOL)

I have got two young labs that obviously survived being eaten :D They are now big enough not to be eaten so brave swimming out from cover at feeding time!
They are so sweet.. I was so thrilled as I thought all the fry had been eaten, but guess they were good at hiding amongst the Cobbles.

hmmm ok gonna take a trip to travis perkins this weekend and see what rock they have !!! is it ok to leave the sand in the bottom ??

yup the smaller tank will be good for fry.. quite excited now !!!
