I have a guppy that is pregnant and a lyretail molly. I bought them about 2 weeks ago and i have about 25 other fish in with them; platys, mollies, guppies, tetras and stuff like that. I'm worried that if i let them go to long the other fish will eat the babies in the middle of the night and if i put them in the breeder box to early it will stress them out. I'm so confused. Anyone got and suggestions i'll take them all. Thanx!! :(

Okay, how big is the tank? What kind of fish are in it? How long has it been set up? Do a water test and please post your results. I would first post pics, so i or someone else can tell you about how far along they are. Second, if they are close to birth, i would either put them in a breeder or put them in a spare tnak.

I'm having the SAME exact problem! I have a mickey mouse platy. I decided to rather be safe than sorry so I put her in the breeder when she looked to be getting close. It's still up to you but if I were you I would put her in a trap when you think she is very close. Good luck! :good:

have lots of floating plants in the tank. That way when the babies are born they will be able to hide in the plants until you see them and scoop them out to put in a safe enclosure.
Water Sprite (Ceratopteris thalictroides) is one of the better plants but Ambulia, Ludwigia, Hygrophilla polysperma and Elodia will all grow on the surface and don't need to be planted in the gravel. You can also use plastic plants.

The tank is a 90 gallon and I have 5 platys, 7 fantail guppies, 1 neon tetra (4 are MIA), 6 black neon tetras, 1 clown loach, 1 pleco, 2 zebra danios, 4 dalmation guppies, 1 killi fish, 2 knight gobies, the prego lyretail, and a prego guppy. The pH in the tank is 6.8 and i dont have a test kit for anything else. It's been running for about 2 years but these fish are all about 2 weeks new. How do I post pics? Gonna be honest, not that great at working computers. Not my thing.

to add pics in this section (you can't add pics in every section, only some) click on the Add Reply button under the last post.
When the new page has loaded up you have a box that you can type things in. Below this box is something called Attachment Editor. You shold see a Browse and Upload button. If you click on the browse button you can find images on your computer, When you have double clicked on the image click on the Upload button.
It will upload the image to the sight, then click the Add Reply button under the smily faces.

Thanx a bunch for all your help :fun:

Be aware that it will only upload pics that meet the requirements...

Why are people so bothered about using traps?

If you keep the female in the trap for no longer than 48 hours, she will be fine... just put her in and turn the light out in the tank and dont disturb them.

The other option is as above says, well plant the tank and make sure there is plenty of hiding places for the fry to retrieve to..

Colin says about floating plants, this is a great idea cos the fry when born automatically swim to the surface where the light is.
